Merit Marks

The USPS Merit Mark recommendations are designed to recognize individual meritorious service during the calendar year. The Merit Mark nominations are generally submitted by a Squadron Officer or Committee Chair who is assigned tasks for a specific functions or events throughout the year.

The Toledo Sail and Power Squadron will initiate a “Self Acclaimed” Merit Mark Program where each and every member who has participated in events or functions assign a value that they feel is worthy of recognition by the Merit Mark Committee. A running list is compiled of nominees and submitted to the Squadron Commander for review who then forwards those names to the Chief Commander whom further reviews the efforts. It is the Chief Commander who determines satisfactorily acknowledgement of Merit Mark recipients.

The criteria for individuals to realize it amounts to only ten (10) hours of personal time dedicated to the Toledo Power Squadron to bring forth exposure of  Public Safe Boating Education. Listed below are some simple recommendations that will qualify you for due recognition;

  • Taught Educational Courses
  • Assisted Educational Courses
  • Attended Meetings and participating within
  • Took Part in Committee Meetings
  • Served on a telephone calling committee
  • Served on a Cooperative Charting Committee
  • Served on a Cruise and Rendezvous Committee
  • Worked on a Publication Committee
  • Worked at Boat Shows
  • Worked on a Public Relations Committee
  • Worked or served on a Parade Committee
  • Worked at a Change of Watch
  • Worked on a Conference Committee
  • Served on a Vessel Safety Check Committee
  • Prepared a Squadron Program or Coordinated Program
  • Active with other organizations promoting Safe Boating

Be creative about your efforts. If you performed anything that further promotes Toledo Power Squadron’s well being, tell us about it. If you can’t identify your own efforts, don’t expect an Officer or Committee Chair to remember everyone and everything occurring during the year. Be proud of your efforts and “LET US KNOW” what you think you are worth to yourself and our squadron.
